Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rec Camp like?

Student Life Camp is a Christ-centered camp for 7th-12th graders. It includes engaging worship from experienced worship leaders, learning through sound biblical teaching and Bible study, community in Life Groups, and fun at recreation!

Why do you not hire staff to teach the Bible studies?

We believe it’s important for adults from the local church to be involved in what happens at camp. After all, they go home with the students.

Can we leave camp to do things with our group during free time?

At Rec Camp, you will need to stay on campus during free time throughout the week. Our staff leads a variety of free time options each afternoon and most campuses have free time options that include a pool, basketball courts, volleyball courts and a snack bar as well as other location specific options. Check out the “Event Details” on our Find A Camp page for more information.

What is the difference between Rec Camp and Mission Camp?

The main difference is how groups spend the afternoon. At Mission Camp, we will assign your church to a mission site for the day. After the morning session, you will have Life Group Bible study, lunch and then head to your mission site. At Rec Camp, students will participate in Recreation on campus and lunch all on campus.

Can half of my group do Mission Camp and the other half do Rec Camp?

Of course! You are free to separate your middle and high school this way, or you can allow students to choose the experience that most excites them. We will work with you to meet your group’s needs. Each group will need their own adult leaders with them and your groups would be listed under two separate registrations.

What is the difference between Rec Camp and Beach Camp?

Beach Camp offers more of a conference experience where your group is free to plan and enjoy the beach and other activities in the area. You are in control of your own meals, transportation and lodging. Scheduled programming includes a morning and evening service and materials for Life Group Bible Study (a suggested daily schedule is available). Rec Camp is typically held on a college campus or conference center where the meals and lodging are provided. At Rec Camp, Student Life staff coordinates organized Recreation during the day, which Life Groups participate in together.

What about 6th graders? Are they invited?

It is up to each church. If they are normally a part of your youth group, they are welcome at any Student Life camp. Our programming is designed for students entering 7th grade up until entering college. If your group is younger, you may want to check out Student Life Kids Camp.

What is a Life Group?

A Life Group is about 8-12 students coming together under the leadership of adult leaders from your church. A Life Group’s purpose is to learn about Jesus through Bible study, prayer and group-bonding activities so they can continue to disciple and invest in your students’ spiritual growth back home.

What is the adult to student ratio?

We request one adult for every seven students.

What will adult leaders do at camp?

Your adult leaders will be the all-stars of camp. They will disciple your students during Life Group, pray with your students during Prayer Gathering, cheer them on at Recreation, help enforce lights out so you’re all ready to go for the next day and more! A Life Group Leadership Meeting is held each morning (with lots of coffee) to help your leaders prepare for Life Group and pray together.

What will Student Pastors do at camp?

Student Life camps are designed to free Student Pastors from a lot of responsibility so that they can spend time building relationships with their students. Each evening there will be a Student Pastor Gathering before the worship service for prayer and fellowship. This meeting takes place while the students are in their evening Prayer Gatherings with their Life Groups. For this reason, it is best for Student Pastors not to serve as Life Group Leaders. We believe that this is an extremely important aspect of Student Life Camp.

Do we need to be a specific denomination to attend Student Life Camp?

Not at all! Student Life is an inter-denominational, evangelical ministry serving the local church. Feel free to contact us if you would like a list of church references.

Why is Mission Camp more expensive than Rec Camp?

The price difference covers numerous expenses including the cost of the materials and equipment used on sites where supplies are needed and staff required to set up mission sites.

It's after the January 31 deposit deadline. Can I still register for camp?

YES! You can always register for camp (as long as space is available for a particular location). We ask that you try to get your deposit in as quickly as possible, preferably within two weeks of registration.

Sales Tax
Lifeway is required to collect sales tax for events held in Colorado and Virginia. The sales tax charge will be added to the final balance on your camp confirmation statement. For churches traveling from out of state, you must send Lifeway a sales tax exemption for the state in which the event is held to have these taxes removed. Churches may obtain the proper documentation from the state’s Department of Taxation or Department of Revenue. State tax exemption forms are to be scanned and emailed to taxexemption@Lifeway.com.
