Frequently Asked Questions
What are the start and end dates for a Student Life summer employee?
Training week will start around May 19th. If you are hired for a Tech or Acting position, you will be required to report a few weeks earlier (May 10th at the earliest) for rehearsals. Your end date will depend on the assigned team. All teams will finish by August 6th.
How does the summer staff get from location to location during the summer?
Each team travels together in Student Life vehicles. Team members 20 years of age and above are asked to drive.
Can I bring my own vehicle if I want to?
Please do not bring your car to travel during the summer.
What if I am graduating from college after training week starts?
Arrangements need to be made ahead of time. We will do everything we can for you to be able to attend your graduation, but no guarantees are made. Please note your graduation date on your application.
What if I need to leave for an event (wedding, emergency, etc.)?
Every effort should be made to avoid any absence during the summer. If an emergency occurs, you will be able to leave to be with your family. Arrangements may be possible for weddings or graduations of immediate family members or close friends but will depend on the Camp schedule. Clearly communicate any requested absences on your application and during your interview, as they may affect employment and/or team placement. These decisions will ultimately be made by your Event Director.
How do I schedule arriving and departing for the summer?
Student Life will work with you to coordinate travel to and from camp and will cover these costs. When teams are assigned, your Event Director will give you the exact dates and times around which to make your arrangements.
Can my friends and family come visit me during the summer?
Guests are welcome! If a guest wants to visit and stay overnight in a local hotel or on campus (if available), we ask that they visit towards the end of the week. Our schedule is extremely busy early in the camp week and it will be difficult for you to have time to spend with your guests. For this reason, please do not have guests on the 1st day of camp. Guests also should not stay more than 2 nights/3 days. All costs (including stays on campus) are the responsibility of your guests. Communicate with your camp director prior to any visits.
What are the rooming arrangements for the summer? Where do we stay?
Teams will stay at the campus or conference center where Camp is being held or possibly a nearby hotel. Since all teams travel, this means a lot of dorm rooms or conference center rooms. You, as a staff member, are responsible for bringing appropriate bedding for the summer to make sure you are comfortable. You will be informed of these details prior to arrival.
If I am required to come in early for Tech/Acting Rehearsals, where will I live?
If you are coming early for rehearsals, housing and most meals will be provided for you.
What do we do when we have a day off?
Generally, this is considered a day of rest. Most people will be tired and need to catch up on sleep. Usually, the Event Director will come up with options for the team. Examples: a day at the beach, amusement park, baseball game, nice dinner (all dependent upon when/where your break occurs).
What expenses will I have during the summer?
You will need money for laundry, any personal items, food between camps, and any other spending you intend to do (personal shopping, activities on off-days, etc). All meals are provided while Camp is happening.
Can I pick the locations at which I would like to serve?
Each team has a very specific schedule, so choosing locations is not an option.
When is the deadline to apply?
Applications must be submitted no later than January 19, 2024. However, applications will be reviewed and job offers sent periodically throughout the fall semester. Therefore, it is advised to apply as soon as possible, as there are a limited number of positions available.
When will I find out about a job?
You will hear back from us by the end of January at the latest.
